Bley Memorail Next at MCS
The Andrew Bley memorial will be the next race on the 2023 schedule for Mountain Creek Speedway. The first race of the year was met with positive reviews with 600 micro sprints racing for the first time and Darin Naida, picking up the win for the first time in the track’s history. Now, the speedway will pay tribute to one of its fallen workers.
Andrew Bley was an EMT and safety worker at Mountain Creek Speedway serving the track before passing from COVID-19 in 2021 at the age of 29 years old. Since his passing, Bley’s family started this memorial race in his honor. Andrew started his fire fighting career in his young teens, eventually mentoring junior firefighters coming up through the Atwell Volunteer Fire Department Junior program. Last years race winner, Dylan Beard is still working the bugs out of his new Ignite chassis, finished eighth in the season opener. Its anyones race as the competition level is going up in the 450 Yamaha Outlaw division. The first race of the year was won by Central Point, OR driver, Mike Wheeler who now calls North Carolina his home. Former track Champion CJ Sweatt and multi-time race winner Michael Hubert also look to win this prestigious event but don’t count out drivers like Travis Stanley and Sam Miller who are getting faster and faster each week.
Because of Sunday afternoon activities split between the Outlaw kart classes and the micros. The Bley Family will hold two 50/50 drawings throughout the day with all money donated going to the Atwell Volunteer Fired Dept. Junior program. The first winning ticket will be drawn before the Box Stock main event with the second drawing to be picked before the 600 Micro Sprint main event. Any business looking to sponsor the event can contact the track directly via phone call, e-mail or social media message.
The next race for micro sprints and outlaw karts will be Sunday April 30th. When the track isn’t racing, it’s busy Monday through Friday with testing and practice sessions for everything from flat karts to national midgets. The track will also be available for testing and practice days throughout the year. Those wishing to reserve rental or testing days can contact Jason Queen at (828)413-6890 for details and availability.
