There was a collection of winners spread amongst eleven different divisions Saturday night at Mountain Creek Speedway. It was the third race of the season for the speedway by the creek. Carson Hammill took his first win of the season by dominating the night by setting quick time, winning his heat and leading every lap of the main event. He was followed across the line by cousin, Grayson Hammill with Ryder Poole finishing, third.
Randy Kincaid was the first kart across the line in the Sr. Champ division but was disqualified in post race, handing the win to Charlie Hester. It was a close race in the 206 SUMO division with the top four bumper-to-bumper all race long and at the end of twenty laps it was Sean Campion winning the main event with David Therrell, the runner up and Kevin McMillan, third. It was all about the start in the Jr. Lite division. Maddox McCleary and Adalyn Owens drag raced all the way through turn one when McCleary got the advantage on the high side to take a lead he would never relinquish. Adalyn Owens was second with Greyson Moore completing the podium.
Andy Hudgins bested a field of seventeen other karts to win the Predator 375 main event. Hugh Turner came from fifth to finish second with Everett Davenport rounding out the top three. Mark Hammill took the win back to Denver, NC when he won the 206 Heavy feature. Cousin, Matt finished second with pole sitter, Dustin Cade finishing, third. Jack McCleary led the all important last lap to win the Jr. Heavy main event with a final lap pass on Kaidyn Passour. Passour had to settle for second while Ayden Owens drove home to complete the podium.
Billy Furr bounced back after a heat race mishap to win the Sr. Champ feature. Jarrett Anderson and Cowboy Carmien were second and third. It was an exciting win for Calvin Bush in the Mini Modified main event. Bush was fast qualifier and won his heat, putting him on the pole for the main event. LJ McCleary took off to an early race lead but was overhauled by Bush who drove to his first win of the 2022 season. McCleary settled for second with Jordan Bost rounding out the top three. Mark Hammil grabbed win number two of the evening when he won the 206 Medium main event. Dustin Cade was second with Mekhi Harshaw finishing, third.
Bobby Pless was on his way to another win this season until he was involved in an altercation with lapped traffic while leading. Tony Wilson inherited the win but he had to hold off the challenges of LJ McCleary and Jeremy Wayne who completed the podium. The next race for flat karts at Mountain Creek Speedway will be Saturday May, 14th. When the track isn’t racing, it’s busy Monday through Friday with testing and practice sessions for everything from flat karts to national midgets. The track will also be available for testing and practice days throughout the year.
